One of the biggest festivals in the country. Mask dances like the Guru Tshengye (Eight Manifestations of Guru) and Shaw Shachi (Dance of the Stags) are enjoyed because they are similar to stage-theater.

Thimphu Tshechu falls on September 19-21, 2018 (3 days festival)

Day 1: Arrival (Paro Airport)

Spend the day in Paro sightseeing. Travel to Thimphu in the evening

Highlights:

  • Drukgyel Dzong
  • Hike to Paro Taktsang
  • Museum (paro Taa dzong)
Day 2: Thimphu Festival (Tshechu) Day I

One of the biggest festivals in the country. Mask dances like the Guru Tshengye (Eight Manifestations of Guru) and Shaw Shachi (Dance of the Stags) are enjoyed because they are similar to stage-theater. The tshechu will be held in the courtyard outside the Tashichhoe Dzong.

Day 3: Thimphu Festival OR Sightseeing in Thimphu Day II

You can witness the festival the whole day or tour Thimphu.
Highlights:

  • The Buddha Dordenma at Kuensel Phodrang, the tallest Buddha with the view of the Thimphu city.
  • Drive to Sangay Gang to view the city from a different angle.
  • Drupthop Nunnery, for the bird's eye view of the fortress Tashichhoe Dzong("The Fortress of the Glorious Religion"). 
  • Tashichhoe Dzong visit. Visiting the fortress is possible only after the office hours on weekdays and whole day on weekends.
  • The National Memorial Chorten. 
  • Centennial Farmer's market.
  • The Painting school to get an insight on the traditional arts of Bhutan. 
  • The Motithang Takin(national animal) Preserve. 
  • The stadium and Archery(national sport) ground.
Day 4: Thimphu Festival Day III

The last day of the Tshechu. Many people consider the last day to be the most important hence more people will be attending compared to the other two days. Witness the Tshechu and/or tour around in Thimphu. Drive to Paro.

Day 5: Paro

Start the day with a hike to Taktsang (Tigher's nest). Spend the afternoon leisurely in Paro.

Day 6: Paro - Airport

Departure.
